New roommate; tips for black bear hamster?

I was at a closing sale at the pet store and I fell in love with this little guy. He looks EXACTLY like a Tasmanian Devil. [link]

After a lot of begging, giving up presents for a handful of years and agreeing to chores, I convinced my mother I need him.

I used to take care of all my sister's five hamsters, because she buys pets and loses interest [like her fish, currently in MY care]. Though it has been a while.

He's very shaky, the store workers warned me. But he doesn't bite, at least not yet.

I've never had a hamster like this, so just in case I need to know things, any tips would be welcome! c:

His name is Tas now. I'm following some guides I've found to get him settled in and used to me. I'm just so happy to have a new roommate~ I'm a weirdo, but I love the smell of the wood shavings and his fur, and the clanking of his wheel, and the little tick of the ball in his water bottle. Man I've missed having hamsters.

Oh that's really cool for you! Unfortunately I never had a Hamster so I can't give you tips, but I do hope he gets used to you very fast and becomes what you want him to be. x) Anyway he'll love you lots and lots! That's for sure. 8D

I had a friend who raised hamsters for years. The one thing she always emphasized was finding a good vet for checkups and such. Just like with people, if the doctor is familiar with them when they are healthy, they will know when they are not...

Though, I am a little concerned when you said he was shaky. Is that health wise or personality wise?

Personality. I don't think he was very socialized with people at the store. So if you touch him he flips out a little.

...or Tazz. Sounds adorable... @///@ I want a hamster... The closest I've ever been to a hamster is babysitting the teacher's rabbit over summer...
